Sinkane’s new album Dépaysé was released today!

Bandleader Ahmed Gallab—who was born in London to Sudanese parents, raised in Ohio, and now calls New York City home—says Dépaysé chronicles an immigrant’s journey of self-discovery in the Trump era. "Dépaysé is a French word that basically means ‘to be removed from one’s habitual surroundings,’” he explains in his bio letter, available to read in full 👉 HERE. “By extension, it means to be disoriented, homeless. That's a feeling I relate to very much in these times—and I don’t think I’m the only one who feels this way… [Sinkane’s] collective experience as children of the diaspora helped bring the music to life in the most honest way possible.”

The title track and singles “Everybody” and “Ya Sudan” saw early support from NPR Music (video premiere), Stereogum (5 Best Videos Of The Week), WNYC’s New Sounds, Consequence of Sound, and Brooklyn Vegan, among others. Dépaysé follows 2017’s Life & Livin' It, which earned the band their national TV debut on Conan, an NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert, and many other accolades.

Sinkane—featuring frontman Ahmed Gallab, Elenna Canlas (keys and vocals), Jonny Lam (guitar), Ish Montgomery (bass), and Chris St Hilaire (drums)—with new album 'Dépaysé’, play London's Field Day Festival this Saturday June 8th and kick off a headline North American summer tour on June 12th in DC.
